One thing I remember during the "Red Scare"and "Cold War" was it seemed strange to me that Russians called the Soviet Union the "motherland." Now admittedly that was US propaganda against "Russians/Communists" that I'd see in movies and commercials and in the media. But it was meant to separate us and the Russians because we almost always said "my country" or "America." And it was also proof that Russians/Communists were just inherent liars. What fucking "motherland"? The Soviet Union was a collection of captured countries that were being held hostage and exploited against their will by the Russians. That was my country's propaganda to protect the United States of America from the Godless Communists that were trying to take over the world and might kill us at any second. But by God if Russians ever tried that they would be sorry because we had enough nuclear weapons to kill everyone in the Soviet Union 11 times and they could only kill everyone in America 7 times.

That's how I do word tracking. It might be only one word or a few and/or contradictions and lies. But that's all it takes to make me think of a series of things and start watching them real close.

Now I can always be wrong. Hunting Elk in deep snow one time I followed a moose track for two miles backwards. But that's the exception. Usually the trail leads to prove my suspicions.

 

I have no idea how honest or how forthcoming China has been ,
in the overall figures etc.
That will be determined by history.

Expert opinion seems to be , that they have been very helpful and up front , with important information (technical medical information and the important stuff)

Certainly one of the things they have tried to do , is prevent rampant spread as much as possible ,
as soon as they could see the risks ramping up.

This crisis is different to some others ,
so not easily comparable , yet.

As I've said before , we have forgotten ,
we Don't always get instant facts and figures on everything immediately.

Obviously for some who weren't here or don't remember ,
that is a little hard to understand or believe.

It dose seem to be slower spreading ,
and if that's in fact true , it will eventually save the day ,
because that means China's efforts have paid off ,
and , because of past experience , and lessons learned ,
there has been prompt and effective isolationing ,
and
there should be treatment available as early as is possible.

But don't start cheering just yet.

There are still a few critical unknowns.

It is spreading pretty much world wide ,
so if it turns out that it is not as simple as it might be ,
who knows where it will go.

It may be easy to get out of the way of huge slow moving trains , but if they're unstoppable , they will do a lot more damage in the end.

The worst thing that could happen now , is for people to get careless , and become complacent , before the real facts are known , and controls in place.
The train won't just stop for you.

 

Pictures and video of Wuhan over the last couple of days , look like it's a super modern ghost town .
Deserted.
Consider this.

There are 11+ million souls still living in it.

There are only 8+ million in London .

(and by the by , there's only 5 million in this country)

It is certainly hard for many of us , all over , to comprehend the scale.
To me , the idea of shutting down places I've seen (years ago admittedly) , like London , Paris , Copenhagen , and Rome etc.
is a bit mind boggling.

The logistics.
How dose everyone stay fed n watered , clean n washed , warm , get rid of waste , etc etc

And while on the subject .
Imagine getting everything up n running again ,
as 11 million people rush outside for a breath of fresh air and a ray of sunshine ,
and
try to grab everything they've run out of

 

I have heard that the international community is preparing to fly their nationals out of Wuhan.

I cannot think of a more efficient way to distribute the virus around the planet.

The U.S. sent a plane... it picked up 240 out of 1000 U.S. citizens based on some unspecified priority. They'll be quarantined for a few days unless they exhibit symptoms of the virus. If there are, they'll be treated and quarantined for 3 weeks. ONE PLANE!... so many people... so little room.

And people think people are crazy for wanting a house in the middle of nowhere, living off the land and being self sustaining. It's looking pretty good to me just hiding from everyone and everything. Of course everyone I love would be living there with me, staying safe.

 

I have also heard that the US is only quarantining evacuees for 3 days.....France, Germany and other countries are quaranting people for 14 days!

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen!

I do understand your feelings but having actually been out there then once you get out there you find all you have to worry about is three or four kinds of tick fever, Hantavirus spread by mice, rabies, water born germs and viruses, food poisoning, snake bites, and a few things that will just eat you. So like Charles Russel once wrote its a question of "Safety first. But where is it"?

 

I won't post the whole thing but this is something I hadn't really thought about.

Scientists expect many crucial questions about the virus' behaviour
will be answered
in the coming weeks

as the outbreak evolves and it becomes clearer how people are infected .

As I've said several times , you can't expect all the answers instantly.
Even experts are talking "weeks".

The big question is ,
is it spread before symptoms show ?
which was reported to be
BUT ,
apparently that has not yet been confirmed.
(that's the big game changer)

If so , there is still a small risk of a pandemic.
and if not ,, I'm picking that is getting less likely ,
as everywhere seems to already have good controls , like quarantining already in place.

(and unlike early reports , early travelers were not infecting people unknowingly ,
as was thaught they might be)

Air NZ will be sending a plane to China to pick up Kiwi stranded by this

154 kiwi known to be in Wuhan ,
along with about 30+ Pacifica , who will also be offered seats.

Quarantine details not known yet.
