There are a lot of things that annoy me in porn. Many of the tropes of "professional" porn are among them.

• The fake... everything.
• I hate when too much time is spent on the blow job. While I appreciate that some may enjoy watching this, it is more arousing to me to watch the actual intercourse. Many of the videos I've seen over the years seem to treat that part as an afterthought.

While that is true, what that tells me is that the porn industry needs to step up their game. Give us some production value here. So much in porn annoys me. After watching porn off and on for 30 years and doing video editing for more than 20, I like to think I know what good filming techniques are and what good, quality footage is. Porn is seriously lacking both to varying degrees in my opinion. I'll elaborate on what I feel are the most egregious. Please bear with me.
--Pre-sex set-ups. A waste of time in my eyes. If I want dialogue, characters, story, etc., there are thousands of other things that I can watch that are infinitely better at it. I watch porn to see an attractive woman being sexually pleasured. I don't need some bullshit premise to explain who or why. I think of it like this; I don't need to see the pre-game show to thoroughly enjoy watching a football game. I can tune in 10 seconds before kick-off and be totally into it without knowing anything about the match-up or relevance of the game. I understand some people like the set-up, but I feel that time could be better used filming something truly worth watching, like the woman masturbating. At least it's easy to skip past to get to the good stuff.
--Stupid, lazy, or inefficient sex positions. Why is it so hard for so-called professionals to know and use efficient, "camera-friendly" (easily allowing the cameraman to get clear, unobstructed views of the woman's entire crotch) positions all the time? Too often the actors seem to have no regard for the cameraman's ability to get good, explicit footage. That is the point of XXX porn, isn't it? Not just seeing the guy bumping his hips against the woman's buttcheeks or struggling to get a decent stroke rhythm going because they're constantly adjusting to try to get into a stable position. It seems like the directorial mentality of porn is, "You guys go fuck and we'll film whatever happens." An intelligent director could easily alleviate this problem before filming ever starts by doing a quick run through with the actors. A do it like this, not like that sort of thing. I particularly hate it when the guy bangs the woman when she has her legs pressed together. Adds nothing visually and is just pure laziness.
--Idiotic camerawork. I cannot grasp why the priority focus of the cameraman isn't what's going on between the woman's legs. Everything else should be secondary when there is sexual activity involving the woman's crotch. It's bad enough when the performers don't use good sexual positions, but even when they do, we have mental morons who constantly pan away for unnecessary face and tit close-ups, even when the lady's face and chest are already clearly visible. Pointless camera angles that show little or nothing of the explicit sex action, or filming from so far away that most of the frame is just unimportant background crap. Since almost every porno I've ever seen does these things to some extent, I can only assume there must be a face close-up/crappy angle quota that needs to be filled for every scene that's filmed. Or maybe they think the woman's crotch is the Sun and if they stare at it too long they'll go blind. Too much potentially amazing footage is wasted because cameramen aren't interested in shooting it. They also seem to have a real problem understanding the concept of adjustment sometimes. Too often they seem like they're too stupid, lazy or ignorant to move the camera a foot or so to get a much better angle or shoot around an obstacle blocking the view.
--Horrible editing. One of the uses of all those face close-ups. To jump cut to and from them when they're chopping out sex footage. Funny thing is, porn is just as easily edited without the face footage. Fade out, fade in. I've seen it done hundreds of times. But to my point, too often explicit footage is cut out while less "relevant" footage is kept. I know all too well about the necessity of cutting undesirable stuff out, as well as trimming for time, but when I see a 45+ minute video having explicit footage clearly cut out, but the 10+ minutes of the woman walking around and talking left in, it really annoys me. Another sports metaphor; when editing a highlight package of the best plays in a game, you don't cut some out just to leave in a bunch of footage of the players warming up before the game.
--Manhandling and overly aggressive behavior. I don't know when slapping, choking, face and hair grabbing, jamming fingers into the woman's mouth, etc. became the norm, but I find it repulsive and disgusting. Regardless to whether or not the woman consents to it or actually enjoys it, I find nothing sexually exciting about it. And since so many guys do it now, I can only believe the porn industry condones and encourages it. Just goes to show what complete assholes porn guys are. What's next, punching the women in face or karate chops to the throat?
--Tired, played out sex gimmicks. I'm so sick of the constant dick sucking/ass-to-mouth, anal gaping, unnecessary pull-outs, finger-bang induced squirting, playing around with the chick's pussy or asshole, trying to use toys, and other "stop the fucking" type gimmicks the guys seem to resort to instead of just continuously banging. To me, these things tend to slow or completely ruin the pace of a sex scene. When used sparingly and when appropriate, they're fine. But when they're used over and over again in the same scene, they quickly stop being exciting to watch.
--Theme videos that aren't really about showing a woman attaining sexual gratification. Anal acrobatics, whipped cream/milk enemas, pissing, blow job, and probably a couple more I can't think of at the moment. With the exception of the blow job videos which obviously aren't about pleasuring the woman (which is why I find them incredibly boring), a lot of these types of videos are just about turning a seemingly sexual act into a circus trick. Anal acrobat videos basically just show women sticking weird or large objects up their asses only to push or pull them back out, over and over and over again without any real interest in doing it to achieve orgasm. What a waste of an amazing talent. Practically the same with a lot of whipped cream/milk enema videos. Squirt it in, squirt it out. Sometimes there's some masturbation if the woman's alone, or dildo play if there's another woman or two. But the sexual gratification, if any, is almost always relegated to secondary status. I don't see the point of using a toy or object so big that only a few inches, if even that, can actually be used effectively. The simple fact is, porn could be so much better if the people responsible for creating it had even a marginal level of forethought and a willingness to do the simple, fundamental things really well. Like giving the actors good directions, instructions, boundaries and parameters to work within so that what they're doing doesn't seem like a random, chaotic mess of whatever we feel like doing, whenever we feel like doing it. They are supposed to be professionals, after all. Getting cameramen to focus on what's important instead of all the garbage they think is somehow more entertaining than the actual explicit action. Cutting back on the gimmicks so they're fresh and exciting and not as generic as sand on a beach. Make the women more than just pieces of meat to be used and showcase to best effect their talents and sexuality. All of these things and more could be done if only someone had the guts to pull the industry's head out of its whipped cream-filled, speculum-gaped ass.
