Right now I'm sitting in our shack (trailer house on metal skids instead of wheels) on a drilling rig 20 miles out of Roosevelt UT. I'm recording and verifing surveys that are electronically transmitted from the drill bit at 3,500 feet to our computers on the surface. The surveys tell us which compass direction the well bore is going in and at what angle from vertical.

I have to record a survey about every hour and that takes about 5 minutes. I've got a real good rock station going, am talking to beautiful, exciting and brillant people on this forum and the phrase "life is good" just keeps floating by.:mrgreen:

Actually even though I don't drink alcohol anymore I'm pretty sure I can come up with a beer for you out hear. Most roughnecks never go far without one. And if I hit 'em up out there god only knows what else they've got on them.

Believe me BB this is often tough and isolated work but we do try and provide ourselves with some compensations.

Well porn in many forums are pretty common out here in the oil patch. I always figured that was because we don't mind working for a living but we sure like to be reminded of what makes living worth it.

 

Right now? well, i'm trying to convince this one girl to not cut herself like she says she does... I know she does it to, she showed me her wrists... I think she may be suicidal and for the past week now, I've been slowly getting through to her that there is no point in taking your own life or in injuring yourself.

OK there is one more minor complication with what I'm doing right now which is the rig crew just killed a rattlesnake, which seem to be attracted to the heat and vibration of the drilling rig. The real problem is stepping on them at night, or getting within striking range and not being able to hear them rattle their warning.

Just another occupational hazard.

PS rattlesnakes often travel in pairs and we're looking for his buddy right now.

It does pay pretty well. Without being too specific the job I'm doing right now averages out to between $300 to $600 perday. The other guy with me is a Directional Driller, they earn somewhere betwen $800 and $1,500 perday.

And catch this Kurai, if you skin a rattle snake and put his skin on leather whilie it's still fresh. If the leather is not too oily the snake skin will sort of bond with the leather and not come off. But what you need to find is their winter den not their breeding grounds. You might find as many as 500 or more rattlers in a single den.

And Kurai they are not bad eating at all. There isn't all that much meat on them but they do taste exactly like chicken, even though they look like fish when cooked.

But omg.. They taste like chicken? How come every animal people cook, apart from chicken, Tastes like chicken?, I heard frog legs taste like chicken and squid tastes like that. What the heck? lol Maybe I need to actually try it. But the thought of eating a squid or frog is weird. Lol.

I'll have to throw in with you there. It seemed like everything was supposed to taste like chicken and I thought it was bullshit before I actually ate one, but no shit they do taste like chicken.
