I believe Pacino is one of the best actors to come along in my lifetime - if he has a director who can control his "need" to go over the top and sart screaming. He does that too much, in my opinion. The best actor in my lifetime was the earlier Marlon Brando. If you were lucky enough to see him on stage you witnessed acting at its best. He made his stage debut in "I remember Mama" - it went on to become a TV series. Another stage play he owned against another best actor (actress) was "Street Car Named Desire". In the scene when he is calling Stella - the famous "Stela, Stelllla" scene, his costar (playing Stella) said Brando always had real tears when he was doing that scene - talk about owning a character. Another acting story was when Dustin Hoff. played against Lawerence Olvier in "Marathon Man" there was a sceen when Dustin Hoff. (who has a reputtion of being full of himself) was suppose to be out of breath due to a long run. Hoff. told Olivier he had stayed up all night to look very tired from running. Olivier, probably one of the 5 best actor to ever take the stage (he never could make the transition to movies - read what Anthony Hopkins says about that transition). Olivier says to Dustin Hoffman, "Have you tried acting, old boy". The line it is told, shattered Hoffman and it says a great deal about "method" acting. I have a few other "actor stories - a couple about my faorite - Richard Burton who destroyed himself but to have seen his "Hamlet" was to have witnessed one of the truly best actors, if not the best with Brando. I was in the audience for every performance in Bston and two in New York. He developed so many interpretatons of the character Hamlet every performance I was lucky enough to enjoy, was different but as good as any performance of "Hamlet" I ever saw. Another actor/singer/dancer whose talent I fell in love with, was Sammy Davis Jr. He was a truly nice guy. No pretentions at all. No demands when he was in residence for a gig or role. Some almost no talent jerks, mostly from the music business, made foolish demands, one rock musician always demanded a bowl of M&Ms but only one color. Some goof musician whose life work will be forgotten shortly after his death thinks of himself as "so important". Sorry for running off at the mouth. My access to the theatre was based on my father being the manager of the building in which the Colonial Theatre was built (the best theatre in Boston for a long time). Again, sorry.

Recently been rewatching (for the umpteenth time) my collection of Hopalong Cassidy movies. There a few of us here on the forum that remember a time when TV consisted of three black and white channels (if you lived near a city) and small-town theaters still did Saturday Matinees with a newsreel, a Loonie Tunes cartoon, a short feature or a serial, and a feature film, usually a Western that was a couple years old. In some places , that stretched into the late 60s, and I was usually there from '59 to '69 because that's where all my friends were. No internet, some phones were still party lines and sometimes you had to have the operator dial the number for you. May seem pretty irrelevant now, but a house cost $7000 and new car wasn't over $2K and "mutually assured destruction" and "tuck and hide" was the only pacification lie that folks had to worry about.

 

Derry Girls. I honestly can’t remember the last time I laughed out loud so much. The drug scones at the wake made me spit out my drink. And the 90’s music is awesome!
