It's not a dumb question at all - in fact it is, and has been, the subject of a great deal of study and argument over the years.

I know Wikipedia is frowned upon - but this link is chock full of great information about the fact that humans desire different traits across cultures, age, time of menstrual cycle, etc. The interesting part is that it is very difficult to answer "why" in almost all areas . . . or, at least, there is a terrific debate going on.

For me, I'm a hips guy. I like hips to be a certain way on a woman. It's very hard to describe, it's not size or even waist-to-hip ratio, it's just the way they sit on the body. I've found slim hips and broad hips attractive. if I'm oogling a woman I find attractive, my gaze almost always falls onto their hips early on while I'm perving :laughing:

I just came from the gym and watching the spandex cling to a plump pair of butt cheeks always gets my attention. For me I've always been believed that an imprint of the object of desire starts relatively young with strong emotional attachments? Guys would ask me if I were a tit or ass man and I'd state,"I'm a pussy man" When my cousin seduced me at 12 I became fascinated with her pussy the way it looked, felt and when she pulled my face down to sniff it the musk seemed to beckon me but, not realizing at the time what to do with the information I was being taught. I had a thought recently that the apparent preference for thinner women may connect more with the permissive age - in general, young girls and older women are skinny and androgynous; in other words, those who aren't capable of having children. If all you want is sex (and not procreation) then there is that certain element of skinny = no children. In other words, they're a safer bet for guilt free no consequences sex.

I'm just talking here of a deep seated psychological drive here. On the other hand, women who are nubile, ie capable of having children, are curvy and voluptuous. So you might be more inclined to go for curvier women if you are looking for a long term relationship or to procreate. Or perhaps for men who want to be mothered.....

I'm sure you can shoot holes in my theory, but I still think it's possible to think this way.

 

What attracts me physically? Broad shoulders and chest, tall, dark haired, narrow hips, tight bum. A nice smile helps too. But then, hubby only fulfils one of these criteria

What do I not like? I can tolerate a little padding (no overhang please), but I don't like very skinny gangly men. I don't mind shorter men and find a lot of height challenged men work hard to make up for it and have big personalities or are great entertainers or comedians. I don't mind a receding hairline or grey hair, but thinning in the middle isn't attractive to me - you might as well shave it all off; in fact I really like a shaved head

Well aren't I picky - but those can all be overcome by the right personality, those dislikes would only count on a first impression
