Any type of crab sounds good....with garlic butter.. mmmmm! I'm from New England & now down in FL. & I miss real cold water lobster,, Not what they pass off as lobster down here,

No kidding, that Maine lobster is delicious, but what they pass as lobster in the Caribbean isn't even close...even with garlic butter.

Yeah,, I use to get them fresh from a friend that worked on a lobster boat.. They were to small(but legal) or missing a claw, to sell to restaurants so he would bring them to the bar at Happy Hour & sell them for 5bucks apiece.. For $20 you could have a feast. Winn-Dixie has Maine lobsters down here but they're expensive,, I need to treat myself soon.
When people say Maine lobster it isn't just from maine. That type of lobster is found from Maryland/NJ area up the east coast to Canada. We use to get ours right from Long Island sound in New Haven Ct

I bet that was the best. Our lobsters are live in a tank <Maine>, but they run about 17 bucks/pound when on sale.
If I had a friend like yours, I'd have gout...

I’ve no idea what, but it will have curry and garlic in it. Need some flu remedy and if nothing else, those are some fine placebo...

Edit: Actually, I think chicken with curry sauce.

Szechuan hot and sour soup is my go-to when I’m sick; nothing like some heat to clear a clogged head.

Yeah, I’m not a friend of spicy food normally, but when one can barely taste anything, some real kick in the food feels good.

Ok, not so much what I ate, as what I'm thinking of making. I got some chicken, ginger, habenaro (or jalapeno)... Some of the recipes I've seen online, when I search for those ingredients, call for mango, but I'm thinking orange (easier to work with and cheaper). The chicken is cut into thigh quarters (thighs and legs) and skinned, so I'm wondering if I should roast the chicken first, or cook it with the ginger/orange/habenaro glaze? Some of the recipes called for honey, which I've got. I'm also planning on julienning some onion and colored peppers. Maybe some broccoli. Probably don't need tomato, but that could work, too...

    And serve with brown rice...

I wantthe glaze directly on the chicken and not the skin. That's why I'm wondering if I should cook the chicken first and then shred it and add it to the glaze.

      Could do, yeah.

    4. anon_de_plume
Ok, any suggestions for the glaze? I've seen as simple as my list of ingredients plus soy sauce to things that have a list of spices, too. But I'm also thinking to keep it simple.

Ok... Maybe I've got it... I'll make the glaze and chicken tonight, and make the final dish tomorrow night...

I tend to try to keep things simple, personally. I don't have a super-sophisticated palate and I like to taste the ingredients. If you're looking for kick plus sweet you can't beat mango, really, but orange is good, too. I've a habit of using Gran Marnier where simple orange is called for, just for that added boom.

    6. anon_de_plume
For someone that has made some of the food you mention here... And you don't think you have super-sophisticated palette? I doubt that... Thanks for your input.

I was surprised the other day to learn that the Caesar salad was created by a chef named Caesar in Mexico. I always just assumed it was Italian.

I’ve contemplated that diet, and investigated it once or twice. That plus intermittent fasting is apparently an excellent way to lose weight.

Then I do the research, and I think nah, fuck that.

Heh, well SWMBO put *us* on this diet. I really don't have much say so, unless I do the cooking. LOL
Kinda do the intermittent fasting when I don't like what she cooks.

Steak tacos from a little place nearby.
Next time I'm asking for flour tortillas... the corn one's are too dry especially when they double them up.
Sour cream helped, but not enough.

I made pot roast on Sunday, with gravy, mashed potatoes, carrots, the works.

Today I used up the last of the roast and made a pot roast sandwich à la Mullen's in Wrigleyville. Unf.

No tots on the side, though. :(

I don't like the idea of twice-frying. That just seems a little much. The parboiling makes more sense to me. I didn't click the third link; I got the gist. ;)

I just bought potatoes; they aren't russet. It'll take me a while to get through the ones I have.

    3. anon_de_plume
Just need a high starch potatoes and you don't really need to fry them twice. Just bake them the second time, there should be enough residual oil in them to brown them. The only advantage to frying them the second time is the speed. Baking them will take probably about 3 times as long.

Man, you really are making me think again about opening that tater tot restaurant! ;)

I am telling you it would be a hit, just like poutine here.

I'm serious. The way Chicagoans will line up for food? Open a little window counter place, get a good potato supplier, boom.

      Chicken & Waffle Tots

All this week will be frozen dinners from the store. I refuse to eat anything in this country at all. Cannot wait to be back home and then to Paris for a weekend.

We’ve got folks bringing food over’cause ya know I just got outta the hospital, tonight’s was corn, bell peppers, ham in a cream soup, nice flavor and hearty.

Why they are doing this is a country tradition, I think.
