Now at one time we had a great revolutionary that could tell you exactly how much a member of Congress (as long as there were Democrats) were worth when they went into Congress and how much they are worth now. Hopefully the great revolutionary can weigh in now and tell us how much Johnson is worth now after his years in Congress.

And if he can't wouldn't the revolution have questions for him?

Liz Cheney says new Speaker Mike Johnson is a 'dangerous' person to lead the House
    Riley Beggin, USA TODAY
Wed, November 1, 2023 at 12:59 PM MDT·2 min read

    WASHINGTON−Former Rep.

, R-Wyo., called new House Speaker Mike Johnson "dangerous" because he supported overturning the results of the 2020 election.

Cheney, who was one of the most vocal critics of former President Donald Trump during her last years in Congress, said Johnson "says that he's committed to defending the Constitution," but that he failed to do so in the wake of the last presidential election.

"He was willing to set aside what he knew to be the rulings of the courts, the requirements of the Constitution, in order to placate Donald Trump," she told University of Virginia Center for Politics director Larry Sabato on the "Politics is Everything" podcast Wednesday. "So it’s a concerning moment to have him be elected speaker of the House."

Following the 2020 presidential election, the new Republican speaker from Louisiana penned an amicus brief in support of overturning the results in four states over false allegations of widespread fraud. He successfully rallied more than 100 of his fellow Republicans to sign on, though the Supreme Court eventually rejected the lawsuit.

Rep. Liz Cheney , R-Wyo., vice chair of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol, on Dec. 19, 2022, in Washington, D.C.
"He was acting in ways that he knew to be wrong," she said. "I think that the country unfortunately will come to see the measure of his character."

A spokesperson for Johnson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cheney was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021 and became vice chairwoman on the panel investigating the attack. She was defeated in the 2022 midterm primary elections by Trump-endorsed Rep. Harriet Hageman.

Johnson was elected to lead the House last week after 21 long days without a speaker. He was the fifth-ranking House Republican, and his ascension to the top post came over the course of just one day after three proposed picks failed or pulled out of consideration.

The House will once again have to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election, though Congress passed a law in 2022 that would make it harder to overturn the results, requiring one-fifth of each chamber to bring a vote on a state's electors and other changes.

A reporter asked Johnson about his efforts to overturn the election shortly after he was nominated for the speakership, only to be met with a chorus of boos from Republican members and a simple "next question" from the new speaker.

They've gotten what they wanted out of the old girl.

Johnson is the gift that just keeps on giving. Its amazing to me and how stupid can Johnson be to think he can scrub his past and no one will find out how un American and extreme he is. In fact trying to hide his past just makes it a bigger story as his past gets dug out.

And aside from writing the attack ads for President Biden and the Democrats I think Johnson might provide another much needed gift. I think he might get more Americans to actually look at the Constitutions. It is both sad and dangerous to our democracy the vast majority of Americans are so woefully ignorant about the Constitution. When there is no excuse for that. Part of the genius of the Constitution is the founders wrote it to be easily understood. Even in the archaic language of the time the founders took great pain to make sure just average people can read and understand the Constitution. Because that is essential for We The People to be able to govern and not be at the mercy or lack of same of politicians. We are the ones who are supposed to know what our politicians can and cannot do under the Constitution.

Mike Johnson's Christian nationalist 'snake oil' torn apart by Princeton historian

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) not been shy about espousing claims associated with Christian nationalism, which is the idea that the United States must be subordinated to Christian law — or more specifically, a right-wing interpretation of Christian law.

He has even proposed a religious test for politicians. And he has tried to imprint those beliefs on the law, even proposing up to ten years of "hard labor" for abortion performed for any reason and at any stage of pregnancy.

Princeton historian Kevin Kruse took a sledgehammer to Johnson's beliefs in a Substack post released on Thursday where he dismantled the historical basis for Johnson's arguments.

"First of all ... Johnson is not surprisingly a devotee of the Religious Right’s favorite pretend historian, David Barton, whose books are so divorced from the actual history that his conservative Christian publisher once had to recall one of them for passing along fake quotes from the Founding Fathers," wrote Kruse. And in a new interview with the right-wing Daily Signal, "Johnson does a very familiar routine, cherry-picking a few select quotations from the Founders to imply that they basically wanted a theocratic government, and ignoring the many other quotations from them making clear that these Enlightenment figures absolutely did not want that."

In the interview cited by Kruse, Johnson noted that second U.S. president John Adams wrote in a private letter, “Our Constitution is made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for government of any other.” However, said Kruse, he neglected to mention that Adams also wrote in the Treaty of Tripoli, which concluded the United States' first overseas war, “the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.”

"Don’t listen to a cherry-picked Adams quote about who the Constitution was written for, look at what the Constitution actually says!" wrote Kruse. "The only mentions of religion in there are measures that keep religion and government at arm’s length from each other — no religious tests for office holders, no establishment of a national religion, no interference with individuals’ rights to worship or not as they saw fit. That is what the Founders actually wanted." Nonetheless, wrote Kruse, "Johnson, selling the same snake oil as David Barton, hand waves past all that to imply that the Founders unanimously agreed that Americans had to be religious and that their common government — so carefully constructed to keep religion out of it, and it out of religion — was actually a religious compact."

Ultimately, concluded Kruse, Johnson's agenda of imposing religious doctrine in American law doesn't have anything to do with what the Founders advocated. Rather, "Mike Johnson is doing what Mike Johnson wants. And no matter how hard he tries to wrap it in the flag and the cross, his agenda is quite extreme."

I actually saw this false propaganda circulating from right wingers when I was in college back in the 90's. In college for Christ's sake where there were a half dozen professors that could prove its a lie, history classes, and a library where anyone could look it up themselves. Homosexuality had nothing to do with the fall of the Roman empire. in fact nothing to do with either fall of the Roman empire since it actually fell twice. And I actually had a debate with one of them looking it up on the internet as well as a history book. And the right winger tried to claim that the history that had been written over centuries was actually a left wing conspiracy hiding the fact homosexuality caused the fall because they are pro LGBTQ+.

So Johnson trotting out this laughable lie now is going to get a lot of attention.

Mike Johnson blamed 'rampant homosexual behavior' for the fall of the Roman Empire

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is a Donald Trump loyalist and a far-right evangelical Christian nationalist who tried to help Trump overturn the 2020 election results. Johnson also has a long history of anti-gay views, including — Vanity Fair's Bess Levin notes in her column — blaming gays for the fall of the Roman Empire.

During a 2008 interview, according to Levin, Johnson commented, "Some credit…. the fall of Rome to not only the deprivation of the society and the loss of morals, but also to the rampant homosexual behavior that was condoned by the society."

Levin points out that Johnson was a legal adviser to Exodus International, a far-right Christian fundamentalist group that claimed to "cure" gays of homosexuality. Exodus' claims, according to sex education experts, are totally unscientific.

"In addition," Levin warns, "Johnson reportedly partnered with the organization on a wildly evil event — started by Alliance Defense Fund, the socially conservative legal advocacy group he worked for — called the 'Day of Truth,' which was meant to be a counterprotest to an event designed to bring awareness to the bullying LGBTQ+ are subject to."

Wayne Besen, executive director of the pro-gay group Truth Wins Out, told CNN that Johnson's "core was promoting anti-gay and ex-gay viewpoints."

Levin writes, "Medical professionals have widely condemned conversion therapy, calling the practice pseudo-scientific and abusive."

Wow! That's a lie! There are plenty of religious people on the left. The right has no moral exclusivity claim to being religious.

You have to be working overtime to dig up Last Chance Cowboy College. Which of course I did not attend. I had a 3.92 GPA at a really good community college and was vice president of the honors Society before I transferred to the University of Wyoming to complete my BA in Secondary Education/Journalism. Where I was 4.0 GPA.

And boy howdy. If reporters even try to ask about it Johnson runs away and the treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans rally around him and yell and boo the reporter down.

Which just goes to show again they exist only in their little truth and fact free plastic bubbles. All that does is create three stories out of one. Hell yes the press is going to jump on a story where one of their own gets verbally attacked. But in order to do that they have to explain why. Which creates a lot more stories on Johnson being a coup plotter. And then more stories about Johnson runs away when asked about his massive attempts to overthrow the election. So what is he trying to hide?
