The title is what caught my attention so I'm answering that.
I am a straight male. I've been straight my entire life and I don't see anything in the near future that would change that.
I have friends who are gay (male and female). We go out with them, we visit each other at our perspective homes, we go to their weddings.
Generally we think of them as friends who happen to be gay, not gay friends. (same goes for any other group. We don't have "black" friends, we have friends who happen to be black).
We support gay rights organizations and causes.
Unfortunately, they are the ones who usually bring up "orientation".
Having said all of that, I have no interest in sex with another man. Neither giving or receiving. That doesn't make me closed minded.
I have mentioned before that Nina has done countless things simply because I asked her to so if some day she says she's like to see me in some type of sexual interaction with another man, It'd be highly hypocritical of me to say no.

Just an observation but I find orientation is mostly important to those that have some reservations about their own.

 

Orientation is kind of important to everybody, regardless of how comfortable one is or is not with their own. Taking Bron's example situation above, Guy A is homosexual and entirely comfortable with it. He needs to know what Guy B's orientation is before he falls head over heels in love with him or he's in for heartache. And trying to convince Guy B that he too is homosexual, when the only aspect of homosexuality that Guy B is interested in is sucking cock, and preferably cock that is attached to a beautiful transsexual is just going to make things worse. After all, in that scenario Guy B's sexual orientation is just as valid as Guy A's sexual orientation, and in the same way that Guy A isn't going to change when convenient to get romantically involved with a woman, Guy B isn't going to change to get romantically involved with a man.

While plenty have, oftentimes the gays and lesbians who attempted straight relationships did so due to social pressure rather than any open minded experimentation. And in the same way that most gays and lesbians can tell you that they are quite certain of their sexual orientation, the same certainly applies to those with a straight orientation.
