Ok, I can search ARIN and GOOGLE too. What does that get you? Obviously a serveris down or a trunk line or major relay is out, for that kind of major outage. And also they don't seem to work on weekends. So what would you do differently from them?

If I were them and my major porn hosting client were calling, I would apologize for the inconvenience and rebate them for the downtime but I wouldn't expend any overtime for it.

Assuming you are talking about the data center, and the hosting company... here is what the difference would be:


TOP *real, not in Jamaica or middle east* customer service, ALL THE TIME, AT ALL TIMES.
That's my company's mantra, and I leave by it.

I could be out in the fucking jungle and if one of the servers went down I'd have it back up in whatever time is humanly possible between 1 minute and 3 hours.


The law of the world is ALWAYS BE READY.

There should be a backup of every website ready and WITH YOU if you are the owner of the company.
You should be able to switch the server out to another location in JUST AS MUCH AS the 24 hour POSSIBLE (but never actual) TIME FOR THE DNS TO UPDATE.

So to answer... what would I do differently...
Everything apparently. You see this website (although it's pure speculation) is getting exactly what it pays for... it pays for someone who doesn't work weekends and does not address issues promptly.
Assuming it only pays $250 a month.

IF they were willing to spend double that they could be hosted by a real company and it all would not be a problem.


And I didn't even consider the fact that you said that the *major* porn hosting client was calling... it would even be MORE important to me (yet just as important as if xyz site from abc client was down... ) to get it resolved

And you're suggesting that a pon site on a $250/year hosting contract order up a severity one recovery which would cost more than quadruple their annual operating costs? It's obvious this has been given lower priority because the client and provider are in agreement that this is how these kinds of outages should be handled. This is not an insurance carrier, police enforcement network, or medical imaging facility. You might have some advanced tech awareness, but you have no idea how these tools are used to support business in a fiscally relevant or responsible manner. If you were a building contractor, your answer to every need would likely involve the use of a sledgehammer.
