Trump wants a tougher stance at the southern border due to the increasing influx of South American families invading the border, and Congress isn't helping, to create bold legislation to secure our southern border.

Where is the immigration reform measures that the leftists in the House promised the people?

A pathway to citizenship for millions of immigrants who arrived in the U.S. illegally as children, is not reform...it's kicking the can down the sidewalk.

Trump is becoming ‘increasingly unhinged about border crisis’ and ‘making impossible requests’: report

President Donald Trump has become reportedly “increasingly unhinged” when it comes to his manufactured border crisis, a senior White House official has told CNN.

In a conversation with White House correspondent Jim Acosta, by the time Kirstjen Nielson announced her resignation Sunday, she was “tearing her hair out” with the demands of the White House.

National security analyst Juliette Kayyem echoed the same sentiment, saying that it won’t matter who Trump ultimately appoints to head the Department of Homeland Security, they will be set up to fail.

On Friday, CNN’s Jake Tapper said that Trump told border patrol officials that they were ordered to stop entrances to the United States, which violates U.S. law.

CNN host Ana Cabrara read a statement from a senior White House official who noted the president seems to be losing it over his non-stop fight with the border.

Nielsen “believed the situation was becoming untenable with the president becoming increasingly unhinged about the border crisis and making unreasonable and even impossible requests,” CNN reported Sunday.

Acosta confirmed it’s in line with what he’s hearing from his sources.

GOP fears Trump return to family separations

President Trump will be picking a new fight with Senate Republicans if he decides to renew his past policy of separating families detained at the border as a way of stopping the wave of immigrants.

Trump is expected to select a hard-liner to replace Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who was ousted on Sunday — reportedly after she resisted returning to the policies that led to children being taken from their parents at the border.

The family separations created deep unrest among congressional Republicans ahead of the midterm elections, and Senate GOP sources warn that if Trump taps a hard-liner to replace Nielsen, it could lead to a brutal confirmation battle.

Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), a member of the Republican leadership team, said “one thing we all agree on now is families ought to be kept together as much as possible.”

He said the outcome of a Senate confirmation process to replace Nielsen would depend on whom Trump nominates.

“Depends on who it is but it’s going to take some oxygen,” Cornyn said when asked whether GOP leaders would be able to coalesce 50 votes around any nominee.

Trump may also have a battle on his hands with Republicans over the confirmation of Herman Cain to the Federal Reserve. Cain was accused of sexual misconduct while he served as a board member and president of the National Restaurant Association. His confirmation battle could reopen a conversation for Republicans about sexual harassment months after the nasty battle over Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

Senate Republicans gained seats in the midterm elections, largely because of a favorable map that left Democrats defending more than two dozen seats — including in states that were easily won by Trump in 2016.

But the party faces a more difficult map in 2020. While Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) and Cory Gardner (Colo.) are the only Republicans running in states that Trump lost, Sens. Martha McSally (Ariz.), Thom Tillis (N.C.), Joni Ernst (Iowa) and David Perdue (Ga.) are among the Republicans who could face competitive races.

A senior Senate GOP aide predicted that if Trump nominates someone who endorsed a return to family separations at the border to succeed Nielsen, the candidate will run into bipartisan opposition.

“If Trump wants to reinstate the family separation policy, that would be met with a lot of resistance. If he’s looking for a DHS secretary to do that for him, that would be a cluster,” the aide said.

NBC News reported Monday that Trump has urged administration officials for months to reinstate an aggressive policy of separating migrant families detained at the border, viewing it as an effective deterrent to illegal immigration.

Nielsen, however, resisted Trump’s pressure and argued that federal court orders would prevent the administration from reinstating the policy, according to NBC.

Trump on Friday called the Flores Settlement, a 1997 legal settlement between a migrant and the Clinton administration that requires the government to release children from immigration custody after 20 days, “a disaster for our country.”

Cornyn, a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, argued on Monday that the Trump administration wouldn’t be able to return to last year’s discarded family separation policy even if it attempts to do so.

“I think they’re constrained by the Flores decision and current law,” he said. “I’m not going to assume they’re going to break the law.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Health and Human Services proposed changes in 2018 that would lead to the dissolution of the Flores Settlement and would likely spark a legal battle.

Withdrawing from the settlement would allow the administration to keep families in detention for longer periods and avoid the political land mine of separating children from their parents.

Nielsen’s resignation has come as part of a broader effort to purge the Department of Homeland Security of officials who were close to former White House chief of staff John Kelly, who served as DHS secretary for six months in 2017.

White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, who has pushed the president and the rest of the administration to take a strong stand against illegal immigration, is reportedly behind the shake-up.

Senior Republicans on Monday expressed concern about the turmoil.

Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said Monday that he is “concerned with a growing leadership void within the department tasked with addressing some of the most significant problems facing the nation.”

Cornyn said some voices in the administration “are creating more problems for the administration by losing senior leadership in these important positions.”

“That’s bound to make the president’s and the administration’s job harder,” he added.

Advocates who favor stricter border controls say that Nielsen didn’t have enough experience coming into the job.

“She had a mixed record. I was surprised and pleased by some of her toughness along the way, but I think the disadvantage [she faced] is not having a deep experience and knowledge of the immigration issue,” said Roy Beck, president of NumbersUSA, a grass-roots organization that favors reducing immigration.

One of the complaints against Nielsen was that she didn’t fully vet creative ideas to address the migrant crisis that filtered up through DHS from officials who had more direct experience of the problem.

Beck called former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach “the benchmark” for the position and said he had pushed for his nomination, while acknowledging it could be a tough confirmation battle.

Beck, however, said he did not favor a return to the discarded 2018 policy of not leaving decisions about whether families should be allowed to stay together with migrant parents.

Instead, he favors a return to having border patrol agents involved in adjudication proceedings for illegal migrants, which could help reduce the backlog of immigration cases.

Alfonso Aguilar, president of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, warned that the president or his staunchest allies in the immigration debate shouldn’t expect a sea change as a result of replacing Nielsen.

“It would be disingenuous to think that just by replacing the head of DHS things are going to improve,” he said. “What we’re seeing at the border, this dramatic surge, it’s a product of many factors, of economic and political factors in the countries of [the migrants’] origins that we have little control over.

“I thought Nielsen was doing a good job,” he added. “You can replace her with somebody else, but it’s still the same problem. I don’t know what you could do differently.”

Pentagon says border missions to cost over $500 million

The Trump administration's deployment of troops to the southern border is expected to cost at least $534 million by the end of the fiscal year in September, the Pentagon told lawmakers in a letter released Tuesday.

That includes $350 million on the National Guard-backed mission called Operation Guardian Support for the current and previous fiscal year, and $184 million for the active-duty supported mission called Operation Secure Line.

The Operation Secure Line amount only accounts for the total through the end of this past January, meaning the cost will almost definitely rise.

“The DoD border support mission continues to evolve as the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Northern Command refine the operation,” Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Global Security Kenneth Rapuano wrote in the letter. “As a result, DoD is in the process of capturing requirements and estimating the potential costs. This cost will depend on the total size, duration and scope of the support.”

Rapuano’s letter was a response to one sent in February by 13 Democrats who are veterans or otherwise have a national security background.

In the original letter, organized by Rep. Anthony Brown (D-Md.), the lawmakers expressed “deepening concern” over the use of Pentagon resources at the southern border.

There are about 6,000 U.S. troops on the border right now, including about 3,900 active-duty troops and about 2,100 National Guard members. Prior to the release of Rapuano’s letter, the Pentagon's last official cost estimate for the active-duty troops was $132 million by the end of this past January.

Marines Commandant Gen. Robert Neller also revealed earlier Tuesday that his service’s share of the border deployment has been $6.2 million.

Rapuano told the lawmakers that troops will stay at the southern border until the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) “no longer requires DoD support to secure the southern border.”

Rapuano also said the Pentagon is deferring to DHS “to describe its long-term strategy for securing the southern border.

Brown said the letter shows there is “no real mission” at the border.

“The National Guard has been deployed to the border for a year, active duty personnel have been on the border for almost six months, and DOD's position is that they will all remain there until DHS doesn't need them anymore,” he tweeted. “There is no real mission, and no strategy for success.”

New Government Data Shows Trump Wanted to Close the Wrong Border
Forget “bad hombres”: Far more criminals are coming to Canadian border crossings.

In January, with the government shut down over President Donald Trump’s insistence on a border wall, the White House began pushing a new talking point. Seventeen thousand criminals had been arrested at the southern border in the previous year, Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and former Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen all said.

In fact, according to previously unreleased government data obtained by Mother Jones, the government was vastly exaggerating the number of criminals arriving at the southern border. That is because criminals are nearly three times as likely to be caught by Customs and Border Protection officers at the country’s northern border.

Last week, Trump threatened to close officials ports of entry along the Mexican border, citing security concerns. But of the foreigners convicted of crimes in the United States or abroad who were stopped by CBP at ports of entry from October 2016 to February 2019, 43 percent arrived at the northern border, 42 percent at airports or ports, and just 15 percent at the southern border, according to a CBP spokeswoman.

A smaller number of people with criminal histories were apprehended between ports of entry by Border Patrol agents. Taken together, the new data suggests that if 2018’s numbers were in line with the figures for the past two-and-a-half years, CBP officers and Border Patrol agents actually stopped fewer than 9,000 criminals at the southern border last year, not 17,000.

This fiscal year so far, from October to March, if those same trends apply, more than 2,600 criminals have been stopped at ports of entry along the Canadian border, about 2,500 at airports and seaports, and 915 at US-Mexico border crossings. (An additional 2,513 criminals have been apprehended by Border Patrol agents along both borders.)

When Trump and other administration officials made their claim of 17,000 criminals caught at the southern border, fact-checkers noted that this figure included people stopped at airports and the northern border, but the breakdown was unknown. The administration didn’t back down from its claim.

Pence’s press secretary, Alyssa Farah, tweeted, “Fact check…it IS 100% correct that 17,000 adults with criminal records WERE arrested in FY18 at the Southern border, per” Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security.

Border Patrol agents apprehended 6,698 migrants with criminal convictions in the 2018 fiscal year. Because most Border Patrol agents are stationed along the southern border, it’s likely that the overwhelming majority of those migrants were crossing into the United States from Mexico. (The estimate above of fewer than 9,000 criminals apprehended at the southern border assumes that 100 percent of criminals stopped by Border Patrol agents were coming to the southern border. In reality, the figure is almost surely lower, but CBP has not provided actual figures.) CBP, however, operates at more than 300 ports of entry all around the country, and its agents have stopped nearly twice as many people with criminal histories as Border Patrol agents have since October 2016. Only about 1 in 7 of them were stopped at the southern border.

CBP did not provide a breakdown of the crimes of which people blocked at ports of entry were convicted. But according to data on CBP’s website, DUIs and immigration violations accounted for 60 percent of convictions among people apprehended by Border Patrol agents last year—a far cry from the violent crimes Trump has suggested immigrants have committed. Between October 2018 and March 2019, Border Patrol agents took more than 360,000 people into custody. None had been convicted of murder or manslaughter.

The number of criminals stopped by Border Patrol agents has plummeted in recent years. As Alex Nowrasteh of the libertarian Cato Institute has shown, 5.7 percent of people apprehended by Border Patrol agents had a criminal conviction in the 2015 fiscal year. That fell to just 0.5 percent in March, according to data published by CBP on Tuesday. Among the more than 92,000 people apprehended in March, there were just 189 convictions for crimes other than DUIs and immigration violations—a 1 in 500 ratio, compared to 1 in 30 in 2015.

The other main statistic pushed by the Trump administration during the shutdown was that CBP stopped nearly 4,000 known or suspected terrorists at the southern border in 2018. That figure has been similarly debunked. In January, NBC News obtained government data showing that only 41 people in a government terrorism database were stopped at the southern border in the first half of the 2018 fiscal year. And only six of those 41 were foreigners; the rest were US citizens or green card holders. At the northern border, CBP encountered 41 known or suspected terrorists without permanent legal status in the United States.

Trump threatened repeatedly that he would close some or all US-Mexico border crossings last week if Mexico didn’t meet his impossible demand of stopping all unauthorized immigration. “We’re going to have security in this country,” Trump pledged. He backed down from his threat last Thursday, saying that he was giving Mexico a “one-year warning.” If Trump had actually been so concerned about security, his own government’s data suggests that he should have been pushing to close the Canadian border instead.

Hundreds of migrants board 'the Beast' train in Mexico in risky move to get closer to US border

Hundreds of migrants boarded a train known as the “The Beast” in southern Mexico on Thursday, in a risky move aimed at transporting them to the U.S. border quicker.

The decision to board the train en masse comes after a breakout of migrants from a troubled immigration detention center in the southern border city of Tapachula on Thursday night.

Mexico’s National Immigration Institute said the mass escape, which appears to be the largest in recent memory, involved around 1,300 Cuban migrants. Around 700 of them have since returned voluntarily, but hundreds remain on the run.

Migration authorities said nearly 400 migrants boarded the train, Reuters reported, with images showing men, women and children of various nationalities, most of them on the roofs of carriages.

Heavily armed men escort migrants across US border, surveillance video shows

New government video obtained by Fox News shows heavily armed men at the U.S.-Mexico border escorting a migrant mother and son into the United States. Border Patrol officials told Fox News this is an unusual event and express concern that it will become a more regular occurrence – possibly leading to violence.

U.S. Border Patrol surveillance cameras caught the armed smugglers escort the migrant family at 10 p.m. Saturday near the town of Lukeville in the southwest corner of Arizona.

The video shows four to five men in full tactical gear and masks -- carrying long guns and AK-47 assault rifles – escort a Guatemalan woman and her 8-year-old child under a vehicle barrier. The armed escorts turned back across the border. The woman and child turned themselves into border agents, who responded to the incursion.

The area is almost identical to where last week agents apprehended 399 Guatemalan immigrants who arrived in several buses just a 100 yards from the border. The area contains no pedestrian fence and is adjacent to the busy Highway 2 in Sonora, Mexico.

Trump did more than just hire many undocumented employees

During the 2016 presidential election, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews asked then-candidate Donald Trump about the possible punishments for American businesses that hire undocumented immigrants. “You can be very, very strong,” the Republican replied. “It can be a huge financial penalty. It could be beyond a financial penalty.”

The “beyond a financial penalty” seemed to suggest Trump’s interest in possible criminal penalties.

Many GOP voters probably liked what they heard. What they didn’t know at the time, of course, was that the future president was apparently breaking the same laws he claimed he was eager to enforce.

There have been a variety of reports in recent months about Trump’s businesses hiring undocumented immigrant workers, allegedly with the knowledge of their managers. Indeed, the New York Times reported late last year that Trump’s club in New Jersey took deliberate steps to obscure the fact that it was breaking the law.

The Washington Post advanced the story further yesterday, noting that some of Trump’s undocumented employees were routinely asked to do “side work” after their shifts ended – for no pay.

Allegations that workers were routinely shortchanged on their pay at President Trump’s suburban country club are now the subject of an inquiry by the New York attorney general, whose investigators have interviewed more than two dozen former employees.

The inquiry could raise awkward political questions for Trump, who has made stopping illegal immigration a centerpiece of his presidency and his reelection campaign but faces allegations that his business benefited from low-paid undocumented workers.

Though a statement from the Trump Organization denied the claims, the Post spoke to a former manager at Trump’s Westchester club who said, “There was a conscious effort to pay less wages, because they knew about the lack of documents…. You know, where are they going to go?”

In other words, Trump’s private business stands accused of not only hiring undocumented immigrants, but also exploiting them.

As for the president’s willingness to pay “a huge financial penalty,” such as the one he endorsed a few years ago, I have a hunch he feels differently now.

Seven employees at Donald Trump’s Virginia winery told Univision that they are undocumented. The Charlottesville, Virginia, winery produces 40,000 cases a year, a feat one migrant, who was not identified for fear of retribution, said was made possible due to long hours and little pay. In an interview around the heavily guarded vineyard, the migrant told Univision he was hired with a fake Social Security card over five years ago. Not once, he said, did his employers check the authenticity of his documentation. “They’ve never once asked me for anything, or else I wouldn’t be here,” he said. Another worker said the Trump Organization is fully aware of their immigration status. “They know you are undocumented, because if you look at the Social Security papers that we give them, they’re fake,” the undocumented worker, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “The process is simple. They give you your application, and they find a way for you to complete it.”

Again it just amazes me that Trump supporters try and contend the world only started the day Trump became president. When one of the most common things about all these undocumented workers working on Trump properties is they have worked there for YEARS.

And the other common thing is the managers at these Trump properties knew fucking well they were undocumented.

But of course they don't have anything to worry about because Trump and his family are above the law.
